How to Keep flowers Fresh for Preservation

How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh for Preservation – Stress-Free Tips for Brides & Families

Your bouquet is more than just beautiful flowers — it's a symbol of one of the most meaningful days of your life. Whether it's from a wedding, memorial, or another special occasion, preserving your bouquet in resin lets you hold on to that memory forever.

But here’s something many people don’t realize: how you care for your flowers right after the event can make a big difference in how well they preserve.

At Brooke’s Forever Flowers in Orem, Utah, we specialize in custom flower preservation in resin, and we’re here to help you get the best results. Here’s a simple guide to keeping your flowers fresh until we can start the preservation process.

🌸 1. Assign a Flower Helper

You have enough to think about on your special day — let someone else take this task off your plate!
Ask a trusted friend, bridesmaid, or family member to be in charge of your bouquet after you’re done with photos. Their job? Get it into water quickly so the flowers don’t wilt.

💧 2. Place Flowers in Clean Water ASAP

Once the bouquet is no longer needed for photos, place it in room-temperature water in a clean vase or container. This helps your flowers stay hydrated and fresh until they can be preserved.

✂️ 3. Trim the Stems

Before placing the bouquet in water, trim about half an inch off the stems at an angle. This allows the flowers to absorb water more efficiently and prevents wilting.

☀️ 4. Avoid Heat and Sunlight

Keep the bouquet in a cool, shaded room away from direct sunlight, heaters, or hot cars. A basement, laundry room, or A/C-cooled room is perfect. High heat and sun exposure will age the flowers quickly.

🚫 5. Skip the Fridge and DIY Fixes

Don’t store your bouquet in a home fridge — fruits release ethylene gas that can make flowers deteriorate faster. And please don’t try DIY methods like hairspray, silica gel, or drying techniques. These can make the flowers harder to preserve in resin.

📦 6. Drop Off or Ship Within 24–48 Hours

For the most vibrant, beautiful results, we recommend bringing or mailing your flowers to us within 1–2 days after your event. The fresher the flowers, the better your custom resin piece will turn out.

We offer local drop-off at our studio in Orem, Utah, and nationwide shipping options to make it easy for you.

💗 Your Keepsake Starts with Fresh Flowers

Preserving your bouquet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. By following these simple care tips, you’re helping ensure that your resin keepsake will be just as stunning and meaningful as the day you received your flowers.
